The Pixel Carver

by Jim Murray

Meet Walter Arnold, Renaissance Man. A native Chicagoan, true enough, but his heart and soul are pure, sixteenth-century Italian. See: It's alive!

Walter, you see, fell in love at age twelve. Fell in love with stone. See: A stonecutter's training.

Today, Walter Arnold carves stone for clients around the globe. His work is the finishing touch for office buildings, museums, parks, and private homes. See: Architectural work.

"I consider myself a sculptor," says Walter, "although I bridge two separate skills. Most stone carvers don't execute their own designs the way I do." See: The turtle.

Walter uses pneumatic tools for carving (they were invented about a hundred years ago) and a Gateway 2000 486/33 computer to design his works. See: Ancient craft, modern tools.

Walter Arnold and his family live in a suburb of Chicago, where Arnold tends to his ancient craft. We at Gateway 2000 love to see the original uses people find for our computers, and we're delighted to be a part of Walter's work!
