How to Install the NEC CD-ROM Drivers

This document contains information on how to install the NEC CD-ROM drivers ver. K12B. This is a newer version of drivers for the CD-ROM and is compatible with all the NEC double speed CD-ROM drives that Gateway 2000 has sold and is selling. Follow these steps if you need to load the drivers for any reason.

INSTALLING NEC CDROM DRIVERS (VER. K12B ONLY)

  1. Insert the diskette labeled NEC IDE CD-ROM Driver Disk ver. K12B or NEC CDR-260R into drive A: (or applicable drive), type:

    and press Enter. At the A:\> prompt type:
    install
    
    and press Enter to begin the installation program.
  2. The first screen is titled Simple Start. Use the tab key or arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Continue and press Enter to start the installation.
  3. The next screen asks you to choose the preferred installation method. The default installation method, Recommended, is highlighted. Press Enter to proceed with the installation.
  4. After the setup program has installed the drivers, a message is displayed that shows the lines that will be added to the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT. Make sure that Continue is highlighted and press Enter to continue.
  5. A screen then comes up that says your files are being updated. Press Enter or click on OK to continue.
  6. The final screen tells you that installation is complete. Press Enter or click on OK to return to DOS.
  7. Remove the diskette from the drive and reboot the system for the drivers to take effect.
