The How to Install the Kids Backpack Multimedia CD

This document contains installation information for all the games included in the Kidís Backpack Software package that you purchased from Gateway 2000.

Keroppi Day Hopper

This program requires Microsoft Windows for installing and accessing the Keroppi Day Hopper.

Installation procedure

  1. Insert the Keroppi Day Hopper CD in your CD-ROM drive, label side up. From the Program Manager, click on the word File, then click on Run. On the Command Line type in

    d:\setup.exe

    and click on OK to begin the installation.
  2. The Keroppi Installation screen will appear. Click on OK to accept the default directory of C:\KEROPPI for installation of the software. As the software installs to the hard drive, a percentage bar will show the progress of the software. Once the Installation Is Complete window appears, click on the YES button for Windows to be restarted.
  3. To enter the program, make sure the Keroppi Day Hopper CD is in your CD-ROM drive. Double click on the Keroppi group from the Program Manager to open in. Double click on the Keroppi Day Hopper icon to begin the program.
  4. The first time that you enter the Keroppi Day Hopper program, you are asked to enter your serial number. This number is found on a small white sticker inside the original package the CD disc came in. Type that number in and press enter. The next screen prompts you to enter your familyís last name. Type in your last name and press enter. The following screen asks you to type in your first name. Once you type that in press enter.
  5. The next screen will ask you to enter your private password. Type that in and press enter to continue. The next screen asks you to enter your date of birth. Click on the + and - buttons on the screen to enter the appropriate date and click on OK to enter the program. Your unique password is the only information that you have to have to enter the program after this.

The Yukon Trail

This program requires Microsoft Windows for installing and accessing The Yukon Trail.

Installation procedure

  1. Insert the Yukon Trail CD in your CD-ROM drive. From the Program Manager, click on the word File, then click on Run. On the Command Line, type in

    d:\setup.exe

    and click on OK to begin the installation.
  2. The Welcome to the Yukon Trail window will appear on your screen. Once you have read through the screen, click the OK button to continue. The next screen contains information on the copyright laws. Once you have read through the information, click the OK button to continue.
  3. The Yukon Trail Setup window contains the destination directory for the software installation. Click on OK to accept the default answer of C:\MECC\YUKON and continue. The next window asks if you want the executable file copied to your hard drive. Click on YES to continue.
  4. The Creating the Icon window gives you the default name for the Windows group of MECC. Click on OK to accept this answer. The Install Font window asks if you want the Yukon Trail to use its own True Type font. Click on the YES button to continue. The next screen asks if you have a Microsoft Windows-compatible sound card installed. Click on the YES button to continue. The final window tells you that the installation was complete. Click on the OK button to return to the Program Manager.
  5. To enter the Yukon Trail game, make sure the Yukon Trail CD is in your CD-ROM drive. Double click on the MECC group in the Program Manager to open it then double click on The Yukon Trail icon.

My First Incredible Amazing Dictionary

This program requires Microsoft Windows for installing and accessing My First Incredible Amazing Dictionary.

Software Installation

  1. Insert the My First Incredible Amazing Dictionary CD in your CD-ROM drive. From the Program Manager, click on the word File, then click on Run. On the Command Line, type in

    d:\setup.exe

    and click on OK to begin the installation process.
  2. The initial screen, titled My First Incredible, Amazing Dictionary will appear with information about the installation process. When you finish reading the screen, click on the Continue button. The My First Dictionary Setup screen will appear. Make sure that Express installation is selected and click on the Install button to continue. As the files are copied onto the hard drive, a percentage bar will appear briefly on your screen. Once the Setup Complete window appears, click on the Return to Windows button.
  3. To play the game, make sure the My First Incredible Amazing Dictionary CD is in your CD-ROM drive. Double click on the DK Multimedia group in the Program Manager to open the group. Double click on the My First Incredible Amazing Dictionary icon to start the program

Sing-Along Kids

This program requires Microsoft Windows for installing and accessing Sing-Along Kids.

Software Installation

  1. Insert the Sing-Along Kids CD in your CD-ROM drive. From the Program Manager, click on the word File, then click on Run. On the Command Line, type in

    d:\setup.exe

    and click on the OK button to begin the installation.
  2. The Sing Along Install window will appear on your screen. From the Select A Sound Card list, highlight Unlisted Sound_Board at the top of the list and click on OK. The installation will return you to the Program Manager in Windows.
  3. To play the songs, make sure the Sing-Along Kids CD is in your CD-ROM drive. Double click on the Sing Along Kids group in the Program Manager. Double click on the Sing icon in the group to begin the program.

The Cat Came Back

This program requires Microsoft Windows for installing and accessing Sing-Along Kids.

Installation procedure

  1. Insert the Cat Came Back CD in your CD-ROM drive. From the Program Manager, click on the word File, then click on Run. On the Command Line, type in

    d:\setup.exe

    and click on OK to begin the software installation.
  2. The screen will briefly flash as the I_Learn group and the Cat icons are created. The Cat Came Back Installation Complete window will appear on your screen. Click on OK to return to the Program Manager.
  3. To play The Cat Came Back, make sure the CD in your CD-ROM drive. From the Program Manager, double click on the I_Learn group. Double click on the Cat - English icon to begin the program.

Math Blaster

This program requires Microsoft Windows for installing and accessing Math Blaster: In Search of Spot.

Software Installation

  1. Insert the Math Blaster CD in your CD-ROM drive. From the Program Manager, click on the word File, then click on Run. On the Command Line, type in

    d:\setup.exe

    and click on OK to begin the installation.
  2. The Math Blaster: In Search of Spot Setup screen will appear. Make sure that Run from CD-ROM drive is selected at the top of the screen. To accept the default directory of C:\MBWINCD for the destination directory of the software, click on the OK button to continue.
  3. A percentage bar will briefly flash on the screen as the software is installed to your hard drive. The Installation Complete window will then appear on your screen. Click on the OK button to continue. The Read Me? window will prompt you to view the ReadMe.txt file. Click on NO to return to the Program Manager.
  4. To access Math Blaster, make sure the CD is in your CD-ROM drive. Double click on the Math Blaster for Windows group in the Program Manager. Double click on the Math Blaster icon to begin the program.

Sesame Street Numbers

This is a MS-DOS based application. It should not be installed or accessed through Microsoft Windows.

Installation procedure

  1. Insert the Sesame Street Numbers CD in your CD-ROM drive. At the C:\> prompt in DOS, type

    d:

    and press enter. At the d: prompt, type in

    install.exe

    and press enter to begin the installation program.
  2. The Begin the Show screen will appear. Click the Install Sesame Street Numbers and Theater with your mouse to select it. The next screen asks you if you want to do an Easy or Custom Install. Click on the Easy Install to select it. As the software is copied to your hard drive, the popcorn machine in the center of the screen will fill up.
  3. The Theater installed screen will appear. Click on the word Continue. The Installation Complete screen will appear. Click on Exit to DOS to complete the installation.
  4. To play Sesame Street Numbers, make sure the CD is in your CD-ROM drive. At the C:\> prompt in DOS, type in

    cd eakids

    and press enter. At the C:\EAKIDS prompt, type in

    eakids

    and press enter to begin the game. Once you are in the EA*Kids opening screen, click on the character in the Now Playing window to begin the program.
