How to Install Panasonic 8x IDE CD-ROM Drivers
This document contains installation instructions for the Panasonic 8x IDE CD-ROM drivers. The only time these drivers need to be installed is if the hard drive is formatted, if the CD-ROM files become corrupt, if the AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS file is deleted, or if the CD-ROM driver directory is deleted.
Installation instructions
- Insert the Panasonic 8x IDE CD-ROM Boot Disk, that was received with the computer, into the A: drive. Exit Windows and reboot the computer, or power the computer on. The computer boots to the diskette in the A: drive. A message appears on the screen. Once you read the instructions, press Enter to continue.
- The Main Menu screen appears. Press the number 2 at the top of the keyboard to Install CD-ROM drivers onto Hard disk. The CD-ROM driver Installation screen appears. Press the C key on the keyboard to continue.
- The Easy Install Program Version 1.10 screen appears as the system searches for the CD-ROM drive. The Installation menu appears at the bottom of the screen. Once you read through the information on the screen, select the type of installation you wish to perform.
- If the hard drive in the computer is larger than 528MB, press the number 2 key at the top of the keyboard. DO NOT SELECT NUMBER 3 or 4.
- If the hard drive in the computer is smaller than 528MB, press the number 4 key at the top of the keyboard.
- The next screen informs you the installation will copy files to drive C:. Press the Y key on the keyboard to continue. The next screen informs you the directory for installation is C:\ATACR. Press the Y key on the keyboard to accept this default answer and continue.
- The next screen informs you about the files that are copied to the hard drive. At the bottom of the screen you are prompted to change the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files. Press the Y key on the keyboard to change the files and continue.
- The original files are backed up on the hard drive, then modified by the installation program. At the bottom of the screen you are asked if MSCDEX is installed on the system. Press the N key on the keyboard to copy this file and continue. The next screen informs you the MSCDEX file is copied to the hard drive in the following location C:\DOS\MSCDEX.EXE. If the choice on the installation screen was 2, proceed to step 8. If the choice on the installation screen was 4, continue to the next step.
- The next screen displays the Windows directory. Press the Y key on the keyboard to accept C:\WINDOWS as the default directory for Windows. Once the files are copied to the hard drive, the installation is complete.
- Press Enter to continue. The last screen reminds you to remove the diskette from the A: drive and reboot the computer. Once the diskette is removed, reboot the computer for the changes to take effect.
Default lines in the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS file
AUTOEXEC.BAT lines
The AUTOEXEC.BAT file contains more entries than the ones below. The items listed are simply added to the existing file settings.

CONFIG.SYS lines
The CONFIG.SYS file contains more entries than the ones below. These lines are simply added to the existing file settings.
