How to Install the ICU Configuration Utility for Windows Version 1.44

This document contains installation instructions for ICU for Windows Version 1.44. This utility is for Windows 3.x ONLY. This utility IS NOT for Windows 95 or Windows NT and should NOT be installed on any system with Windows 95 or Windows NT. This is the latest version of the ICU utility. It is available on the Gateway 2000 BBS at (605) 232-2224 as well as here on the web. The file name for the utility is SWR020AC.EXE. This is a self-extracting file with a README document attached. This document assumes that the 3 ½ inch floppy is drive A: and the hard drive is C:.

Before installing the ICU software

Before installing the ICU software, you need to determine whether the CMOS or BIOS on the system supports Plug & Play configurations. To determine this, enter the CMOS or BIOS screens and proceed to the Advanced section of the screens.

Installation instructions

  1. Insert the diskette labeled ISA Configuration Utility for Windows Version 1.44 in drive A:. From the Program Manager screen, click the word File in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Click the word Run that appears on the menu. In the Command line: box type: a:\setup and click the OK button. The Plug and Play Kit for Windows screens appears stating that the software is not for Windows 95. Click the Continue button to proceed.
  2. The next screen explains that the procedure creates a Plug and Play group in the Program Manager. Click the Continue button. The next screen prompts for selection of a directory for the files. Click the Continue button to accept the default directory of C:\PLUGPLAY.

    Note: If the DOS version of ICU was previously installed, a message appears stating that the file already exists and asks to be overwritten. Click the Yes button to continue.

  3. The files are copied to the hard drive and the installation is completed successfully. Click the OK button. Exit Windows and reboot the computer for the changes to take effect. The installation program creates a Plug and Play group in the Program Manager.
  4. To view the settings of any of the listed items, double-click the Plug and Play group. Double-click the Intel ISA Configuration Utility icon. Click the item you wish to view and click the View button at the top of the screen.
