Installing the Ensoniq VIVO and VIVO 90 Sound Cards in Windows 3.x and MS-DOS
This document contains installation instructions for the Ensoniq VIVO and VIVO 90 sound cards in Windows 3.x and MS-DOS. The only time you need to install these drivers is if the hard drive is formatted, if the sound card's files become corrupt, if the AUTOEXEC.BAT or SYSTEM.INI file is deleted, if Windows 3.x is deleted and re-installed, or if the sound card's driver directory is deleted. These instructions assume the CD-ROM drive is D:, the 3 ½ inch floppy drive is A: and the hard drive is C:.
Removing previous Ensoniq sound drivers
If you are installing the Ensoniq VIVO or VIVO 90 sound cards in a system that previously contained an earlier version of the Ensoniq Soundscape, be sure to remove all reference the old card before installing the VIVO. The Ensoniq drivers are not backwards compatible and will not function correctly with this card.
Do not use ICU to configure this card.
The 'System file modifications' section of this document contains the lines added to the AUTOEXEC.BAT and SYSTEM.INI files. Since previous versions of the Ensoniq sound drivers added similar lines to these files, you can reference this section when removing the older file modifications. Make sure to delete the C:\SNDSCAPE directory before installing the new drivers.
Installing the sound drivers
- At the Program Manager window, click the word File in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Click the word Run that appears on the menu. In the Command line: box, type a:\ setup.exe and press Enter.
- A program window appears stating that the Install Shield Wizard is preparing to guide you through the application setup process. The Welcome window appears, recommending that all programs are closed before beginning this setup program. If all applications are closed, click the Next button at the bottom of the window. If any applications are open, click the Cancel button to return to Windows. Close any open applications and return to step 1.
- The next window appears, showing the default directory of C:\SNDSCAPE for the Ensoniq driver files. Click the Next button to accept the directory and continue.
- The Setup Type program window appears. Click the word Typical to place a bullet beside this selection, then click the Next button at the bottom of the window.
- The driver files are copied to the system. During this process, you are prompted to insert disk 2. After inserting diskette 2 into the floppy drive, click the OK button to continue copying files.
- The final screen informs you that Setup is complete. Make sure Yes, I want to restart my computer now is selected, and click the OK button to complete the installation.
