If you have an OEM Matrox video card installed in your system and you're experiencing video distortion (shimmering or distorted fonts), you will want to upgrade your video drivers to the latest version. You can download the latest version (2.1) from our FTP site. The file name is MTX21W95.EXE.
Before installing these drivers, make sure you have a backup copy of the drivers currently in use as well as a copy of the ones you are about to install (Better safe than sorry.) After you download the executable file, you'll need to uncompress it to either an empty directory or a blank diskette.
If you are using Windows 3.x
- First set the Windows display driver to the VGA or SVGA driver by adjusting it in the Windows Setup icon of the control panel.
- Remove the old drivers from the system by deleting the directory in which they are located on the hard drive.
- Run the Install program for the new version of the drivers.
- Once the drivers are installed and the correct monitor is selected, you can reboot the system. Your system should now be using the most current version of the Matrox video drivers.
If you are using Windows 95
- Right click once on an empty spot on the desktop and choose the properties option.
- Click on the settings tab and click the change display type button. Make sure the correct monitor is specified while you are here.
- Click the change button next to the adapter type.
- Click the have disk button and direct the system to the directory or diskette into which you uncompressed the new version of the drivers. The system should locate the new driver.
- After you "OK" everything and reboot the system, you will be using the newest version of the driver.
Note: If you are still having trouble with the video after upgrading the driver version, you may want to consider upgrading the BIOS on the card. Flash BIOS updates for your video card are available via the Gateway 2000 FTP site.
