Number Being Dialed by AT&T® 28.8 Modem on Gateway SoloTM not Audible

Issue: When using the AT&T PCMCIA modem (part number MODPCM004AAUS) on Gateway Solo systems with certain phone lines, the dial tones may not be heard when a phone number is being dialed. Customers will hear the modem pick up the phone, hear a pause (where the number being dialed would normally be), hear the negotiation, and hear the connection being made. The dialing is not heard.

Note: This is due to the amperage on the phone lines. The problematic phone lines are seen on less than 25% of the phone lines in the United States.

Resolution: Make sure the modemís speaker is set always to ON by typing in terminal mode: ATM2 <enter>. Then try dialing a phone number. Reset the modem to factory defaults by typing in terminal mode: AT&F0 <enter>. Then try dialing a phone number.

If you are still unable to hear the modem during the dialing process, contact Technical Support for additional assistance.
