Toaster Will Not Sync
Product: Video Toaster
Platforms: 2000 3000 3000T 4000 4000T
Problem: The Toaster will not sync; video is unstable, the RGB screen may be unstable.
1) Did you swap sources on Input 1 while the Toaster was active? If so, then the Toaster will lose sync. Usually sync can be
recovered by executing a transition or a take. Hit the spacebar or the return key.
2) Do the Program and Preview outputs exhibit a tearing across the middle of the screen? The image on the other bus may also be
showing through on the tear, i.e., on the program screen, the image on the preview bus is visible in the tear. The pixels across the
centerline on the RGB screen may also be tearing one direction or the other.
If so, then Center Frequency is off. See: Center Frequency Adjustment
3) If you have more than one input active, are all sources properly genlocked? If all sources are not properly timed
together, then the Toaster will be unable to sync.
4) Is the video at the top of all video displays pulling to one side? This will happen if video on Input 1 is interrupted
while the Toaster is booting. All incoming sources should be powered up before you boot the Toaster, and you should never
interrupt or change sources while the Toaster is booting.
5) If your Toaster's ability to sync properly varies with the operating temperature of the system, i.e. it will not sync
until the system warms up, or it syncs fine when the system is first turned on but loses sync after the system warms up, then
the CF adjustment may be marginal, and you should definitely do the adjustment. If the problem remains after you have done a good
center frequency adjustment, then a component or solder joint in the center frequency circuit may have a problem, and you should
get an RMA.
