Format:   DIR [(dir | pattern)] [OPT A | I | AI | D | F | ALL] [DIRS] [FILES] INTER]

DIR displays the file or directory contained in the current or specified director. Directories get listed first, then in alphabetical order, The files are listed in two columns. Pressing Ctrl+C aborts the directory listing.

Options are as follows.

ALL    Displays all subdirectories and their files.
DIRS Displays only directories.
FILES Displays only the files.
INTER Enters an interactive mode for listing files.

Interactive listing mode stops after each name to display a question mark at which you can enter commands. These commands are:

Press Return  Displays the next name on the list.
E             Enters a directory; the files in that directory are then displayed.
DEL or DELETE Deletes a file or emtpy directory.
T             Types the contents of a file.
C or COMMAND  Allows the use of additional AmigaDOS commands.
Q             Quits interactive mode.
?             Displays a listing of interactive-mode commands.
Almost any AmigaDOS command can be used with the COMMAND option. To issue a command, enter C ( or COMMAND) at the question mark prompt. Dir will then ask you for the command. Enter the command you desire, then press RETURN.
