How to Install the Sony CD-ROM Drivers

The following document describes how to install the Sony CD-ROM drivers. The only time you want to install these drivers if the CD-ROM was purchased as an add-on, or if data loss or corruption occurs.

INSTALLING SONY CD-ROM DRIVERS

  1. Insert the diskette labeled Sony 2x or MS-DOS CD-ROM Extensions into the A: drive. At the C:\> prompt type in A: and press Enter. At the A:\> prompt type:
    setup
    
    and press Enter to begin the installation.
  2. The installation program takes you into a screen titled MSCDEX Setup Program. At the bottom of the screen, it asks Do you want to install SLCD.SYS?. Press the Y key on the keyboard for yes, then the Enter key to proceed.
  3. The next question asks Which directory to install the device driver to? The directory C:\DEV is the default answer for the installaion. Press Enter to accept the directory name and then press Enter again when ready to proceed.
  4. The next screen will ask Which directory to install MSCDEX.EXE? The default directory of C:\BIN is suggested by the installation program. Press Enter to accept the directory name and then press Enter again when ready to proceed.
  5. The next screen tells you that the Setup program can modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files. Press the Y key and then press Enter to have the program modify the files for you.
  6. The next screen shows the line that is being added to the CONFIG.SYS. Press Enter to proceed.
  7. The next screen asks you if you want to let the program make changes to the CONFIG.SYS. Press the Y key then press Enter to accept.
  8. The next screen asks you if you are installing the software on a network server. Press the N key if you are not, then press Enter to continue.
  9. The next question is whether you want to change the default cache size. Press the N key and press Enter to continue.
  10. The next screen asks if you want to let setup make changes to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Press the Y key then press Enter to proceed.
  11. The last screen contains read me information and then the A:\> prompt appears at the bottom of the screen.
  12. Remove the diskette from the drive and reboot the system to complete the installation.
