Software Installation Procedure:
- Insert the Sony ATAPI driver diskette into the A: or applicable drive. At the C:\> prompt in DOS, type:
and press Enter to change to the A: drive.
a:- At the A:\> prompt type:
and press Enter to begin the installation program.
setup- A screen titled MSCDEX SETUP PROGRAM appears that displays information about the drivers. At the bottom of the screen, you are asked "Do you want to install ATAPI_CD.SYS?" Press the Y key on the keyboard, then press Enter to continue.
- After you have read the information on the screen, press Enter when ready to proceed. You will then be prompted for the directory for the CD-ROM drivers to install into; C:\DEV is the default directory. Press Enter to accept this default and proceed. When the files are finished copying to the hard drive, press Enter again to continue.
- Once you have read the information on the screen, press the Y key on the keyboard. Then press the Enter key to continue with the installation program. The screen informs you that the CONFIG.SYS file has been modified. Press Enter to continue.
- The next screen asks you if you want Setup to make the changes to your CONFIG.SYS file for you. Press the Y key, the press Enter to continue. Once the files are finished copying, press Enter to continue.
- You are asked if you are installing on a network server. Press the N key on the keyboard, then press Enter to continue. You are asked if you want to change the default cache size of the CD-ROM. Press the N key on the keyboard, then press Enter to continue. Once the AUTOEXEC.BAT file is modified, press Enter to continue.
- After you have read the information on the screen, press the Y key on the keyboard, then press Enter for Setup to modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT file for you. When the files have been modified, press Enter to continue.
- The final screen contains information about the CD-ROM drivers. Once you have read the information on the screen, remove the diskette from the A: drive. Reboot your computer for the CD-ROM drivers to load.
Note: If your system does not complete the booting process after you installed the Sony ATAPI drivers, power the system off. Check to make sure that the power connector on the drive is securely attached. Pull the flat, gray data cable off the back of the CD-ROM drive and connect it securely again. Make sure that the red speckled edge of the cable is pointing toward the power connector on the back of the drive. Once you have the cable reseated, power the computer back on again. If the system still hangs during boot, power off the computer again. Try using another flat gray ribbon cable to make sure the connections on the existing cable are not the problem.
