Install Fails While Writing a File to Workbench Partition
Product: Video Toaster, Flyer, Lightwave
Platforms: 2000 3000 3000T 4000 4000T
Problem: When installing NewTek Software, the install fails while writing files to the Workbench partition.
Examples:
Cannot write lz.decomp (pre-4.x software)
Cannot write Switcher.font
Cannot write flyer.library (or any other ".library")
1) If this is a re-install or an update of your NewTek software, then there are already files in place with the same name, and
these files are write-protected. Check and de-protect any Toaster-related files present on the Workbench partition,
then retry the install.
2) If this is a first time installation, check to see that the Workbench partition is not already full. If the partition
is full, then you need to clear about one megabyte of space to do a Toaster, Flyer, or LighWave installation, if the
software's main directory is actually being installed to another partition. If the software is being installed on
the same partition as the Workbench system files, consult the manual for your NewTek product to find out how much space is needed.
Note: If the Workbench partition has been invalidated, then files cannot be written to it. An invalidated
partition will be listed as 100% full, until it has been re-validated. If the system crashes while
a file is being written, then the partition to which the file was being written will be invalid.
Most of the time, if you reboot a system on which a drive has been invalidated, AmigaDOS will revalidate
the drive. If on reboot, the drive stays very active for a long time, then it is being revalidated.
If AmigaDOS does not revalidate the drive, then you will need to use a utility such as Disksalv,
QuarterBack Tools, or AmiBack Tools, to repair the file structure on the drive, and revalidate the drive.
