• Cartoonist Bill Watterson struck gold with the mischievous six-year-old Calvin and his pal Hobbes, the stuffed tiger who comes alive in the little boy's imagination. To Calvin, Hobbes is everything a child could ask for in a friend. Launched in 1985, the strip now appears in 2,300 publications worldwide. And there are now more than 18 million Calvin books in print. But success can hardly be said to have gone to Watterson's head. He lives quietly in Hudson, Ohio.
