Thomas Sidow has the appropriate forms that have to be signed by a DBIS research assistant for each new DBIS student. Bulk projects and seminars using DBIS equipment require the agreement of Florian Matthes (Sun) or Winfried Lamersdorf (IBM AIX), respectively.

Backup of lost files

Thomas Sidow maintains daily backups for all user partitions (Sun, IBM, Mac).

Macintosh Hardware

Maintenance, repair and problem identification is done by Thomas Sidow.

Macintosh Software

System configuration, tool selection and development, user support is done by Bernd Mathiske with help of Thomas Sidow.

IBM PC Hardware and Software

System configuration, tool selection and user support is in the hands of Michael Merz.

IBM AIX RS/6000 Hardware and Software

System configuration, tool selection and user support is split between Kay Mueller and Michael Merz.

Sun Hardware

Maintenance, repair and problem identification is the responsibility of Thomas Sidow.

Sun Software and System Administration

User support, software installation, operating system upgrades, proposals for new equipment, accounting, etc. are handled by Thomas Sidow with the help of Andreas Rudloff for more intricate problems.

Apple Talk, Ethernet

Maintenance, repair, problem identification is done by Thomas Sidow.

Tools

DCE/Encina System Managment

Upgrades, installation, user set-ups are done by Kay Mueller.

Communication Systems in General

Questions about hardware and software products, networking tools, protocols, etc. should be addressed to Michael Merz.

Ingres, Oracle (VAX, Sun)

Installation, maintenance, upgrades, and support of the computing center (INF RZ) and third parties is done by Andreas Rudloff.

O2, ObjectStore

Installation, maintenance, upgrades and support of third parties is handled by Rainer Mueller.

NSE

System trouble shooting and user support in particular for the Style project is provided by Andreas Rudloff.

TeamWare

Transition from NSE, installation, maintenance, user support is the responsibility of Andreas Gawecki.

NCSA Mosaic

The design of the directory tree structure, the definition of new texts and the promotion of this software is done by Florian Matthes. For particular browsers (Mac, PC, IBM) ask the software guru for that machine.

License Managers (TeamWare, C++, NSE, IslandTools, ...)

Startup of daemon processes, maintenance of key files and conflict resolution is done by Thomas Sidow and Andreas Rudloff.

Faces (Bitmaps)

Thomas Sidow maintains the database of faces bitmap icons.

DBPL Shipping and Maintenance

VAX Modula-2 Distribution

External requests, billing, information distribution, licensing are monitored by Andreas Rudloff and carried out by students.

AG Euro Project

Participation in meetings, reports to Joachim W. Schmidt are the tasks of Bernd Mathiske.
