Calgary Stampede Show Band

The Calgary Stampede Show band is what is known as a marching show band. A marching show band does parades as well as a field show.
The Calgary Stampede Show band is the host Band for the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede which take place starting on the first or second Friday in July.

The Stampede Band has been all over the world. In 1993 they competed in the World Music Competition in Kerkrade Holland. And won one gold medal for their parade marching and a gold medal with distinction for their field show. Which placed them third in the world!

1995 will be the Calgary Stampede bands 25^th anniversary. Approximately 1,000 to 1,500 people have gone through Stampede band over the years. A Stampede band reunion for all past and present members is to take place in 1995 during the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. There is also a display set up in the Calgary city hall with pictures and such from past years of the Stampede Band.

Also in 1995 the Calgary Stampede Band will be on it way to Australia and New Zealand to compete and do performances for approximately 3 weeks this coming summer.

Calgary Stampede Show Riders

The Calgary Stampede Show Riders often travel with the Calgary Stampede Band on their trips in Canada and abroad.

Age Range

The Stampede Show Band is Calgary's preimer marching group. It's comprised of 135 to 155 members rangeing in age from 16 to 21. All the members of the band have to do an audition to be in the band for the spots which are open in that particular year.

Uniform

Their uniforms are a white Steton cowboy hat, a red western shirt, white pants with a black belt and red cowboy boots. As well as a white western tie.

Performances

During Stampede week the band has 14 hour days and does a minimum of 60 performances over the course of 10 days. Needless to say that the schedual is demanding. To quote the bands director in a statement to the Calgary Herald ,"The adrenalin and enthusiasim must have been flowing because they didn't sleep for almost two days".
