VORTEL - Teleservice for Workflow Management
VORTEL is a joint research project which is part of the Berkom-Programme
funded by DeTeBerkom Gesellschaft für Forschung und Entwicklung von Anwendungen in der Telekommunikation mbH, Berlin, under project number 2095. Contact Manuel Friedrich at DeTeBerkom for further information.
Objectives
The goal of VORTEL is to develop a generic platform for workflow management.
The VORTEL platform will support interoperation of workflow management systems
of different vendors on different platforms based on a new workflow teleservice.
The following requirements need to be met:
Multi-vendor:
The VORTEL platform needs to support existing platforms from different vendors
which can be regarded as instances or specialisations.
This includes hardware and operating systems as well as applications and workflow
management systems including their components.
Interoperability:
The interoperation of different workflow management systems and their
components need to be supported.
Data Structures:
Data structures that describe and encompass activities within a workflow need to be represented according to international standards.
Use of existing teleservices:
The teleservices already specified and implemented in the Berkom research programme
are to be evaluated and used as a basis for implementing and instantiating the
VORTEL platform.
Within the VORTEL project the VORTEL platform will be partially implemented
according to application scenarios. Thereby, the applicability of workflow
management as a teleservice will be demonstrated in an open and heterogeneous
environment.
