The mission of the Rainbow Warrior en-route to Moruroa atoll is two-fold: to mobilise the international community to pressure President Chirac to reverse his decision to resume nuclear testing at Moruroa, and to attempt by non-violent direct action to stop the tests.
Greenpeace believes President Chirac's decision threats to shatter an historic window of opportunity to achieve this year -- fifty years after the bomb was first 'tested' on the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki -- a comprehensive test ban treaty banning all tests in all environments for all time. There are a few weeks left before French tests are due to resume at Moruroa in September: our aim now is to galvanise the force of international public pressure against President Chirac's decision and ensure we move nearer to our goal of a nuclear free future.
