Creative Labs Notes

The recommended settings for the sound card are the following:

DMA 0,1 or 3 (configurable; must be 1 except for Sound Blaster Pro and Sound Blaster 16)

Additionally a second DMA channel is required for the Sound Blaster 16. DMA 5,6 or 7 can be
used. DMA 5 is often used by the system for SCSI adapters.

IRQ 2, 7, or 10 (IRQ 7 may conflict on some Dell machines causing repeated sounds) Port 220h.

There may be a DMA or IRQ conflict with another device. Either change the DMA or IRQ setting
on the other device or on the sound card. The default settings for the sound card are DMA 1,
IRQ 7, and port 220h. For the Sound Blaster 16 change the conflicting DMA and IRQ setting and
try again. For earlier Sound Blaster cards try physically changing the Sound Blaster card to
a new DMA channel or, for example, IRQ 2 and then using Control Panel to reconfigure the
Creative Labs Sound Blaster driver to IRQ 2.

The original (8-bit) Sound Blaster boards require DSP 2.0 or later for proper sound output
under Windows NT.

To install and configure a Sound Blaster driver
1. Start Windows NT and log on with Administrator rights.
2. Run Control Panel, and then double-click the Drivers icon.
3. In the Drivers dialog box, choose the Add button.
4. In the Add Driver dialog box, select Creative Labs Sound Blaster 1.x, and then choose the OK
     button.
5. In the configuration dialog box, select the correct port and press Continue.

6. If the port number is correct and the card is found, a new dialog box will appear with a
list of configuration parameters for the card you have. This will include the interrupt
number and (for the Pro and Sound Blaster 16) DMA channel number and for the Sound Blaster
16 the 16-bit DMA channel number and MPU401 address. The typical default setting for the
interrupt number is IRQ 7, and the port setting is usually 220. However, you might need
to change these settings on your card to avoid conflicts with other hardware on your computer.

7. When the message asks if you want to restart your computer, choose Restart Now.
