Application of Event Synchronization Technology in
Cooperative Work Environments
Description
Goals and Results
Cooperative work like concurrent engineering and work flow in office
automation requires different services and flexible mechanisms to
coordinate agents of atomic units of work. PSA (problem solving
activity) is a general framework for organizing data communication
between cooperative agents. Agents propagate data at certain states of a
running computation and the non-committed data can be used by other
agents in their computation. The data communication establishes
state-specific protocols between agents, which can be managed by a
protocol machine separated from the agents. ES (event synchronization)
manages protocols using ordering and existence dependency of events.
Agents export and signal events to indicate various states of
computations. In this project, PSA and ES are combined to evaluate
feasibility and usefulness of the ES approach and to develop a flexible
PSA prototype.
