FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Delphi95, built on 10 years of proven compiler technology, offers client-server developers a unique combination of high- performance, native code compilation, visual two-way tools for rapid application development and fully scalable database technology. It is the first application environment to offer the productivity of an object-oriented 4GL with the performance of an optimizing compiler.
"We are excited to see how these third parties have recognized Delphi95's importance in the client-server development community already," said Paul H. Gross, vice president and general manager, Languages and Client-Server Business Unit. "This is apparent by the number of tools, applications and publications being developed in support of Delphi95. These parties have chosen to be the first players in this market when Delphi95 is delivered."
Delphi95 has been chosen to be the subject of various publications, including the new IDG Delphi95 Developers Exchange newsletter, the Delphi Informant magazine, published monthly by Informant Communications, and Inside Delphi95, published by The Cobb Group. "We're excited to be a part of this growing Delphi95 infrastructure," said Mark Crane, publisher, The Cobb Group. "When we see a strong industry offering, such as Delphi95, we're obligated to our readers to provide its supporting information. Delphi95 has garnered such significant mindshare already, we are naturally going to be one of the first journals available on the product."
More than a dozen leading trade book publishers will release tutorials, programming guides and reference books, which explore the new development environment in detail for users of all levels. "The combination of ease-of-use, its component-based nature, and the power of completely compiled executables will make Delphi95 a formidable competitor to Visual Basic and PowerBuilder," said Richard K. Swadley, president, Sams Publishing. "Delphi95 is a natural topic for Sams to publish on."
"We've been watching Delphi95 over the past half year and have seen increasingly positive coverage," said Chris Williams, vice president and publisher of IDG Books. "We felt Delphi for Dummies could be a strong profit center for IDG Books."
EarthTrek, a developer of application development tools, has designed a tool, called the Conversion Assistant, to port existing Microsoft Visual Basic applications to Delphi95, preserving programmers' invested development time and code. They additionally offer consulting and training programs for developers wishing to make the transition to Delphi95 as quickly as possible. Future plans for EarthTrek include the development of a tool to migrate PowerBuilder applications to Delphi95.
Coromandel Industries, a software development consulting company, has begun building applications and tools using Delphi95. "I think for the first time in the industry, Delphi95 provides a true object-oriented development tool for use with client-server database applications," said Dorai Swamy, executive vice president, Coromandel Industries. "Its power cannot be expressed in a few sentences. I'm familiar with other visual development tools, and Delphi95 has advantages over these products. The customization capability and object reuse allow phenomenal productivity. Delphi95 will provide a great leap in terms of technology."
New user groups are forming in preparation of Delphi95's release. Groups from across the country and in Europe are ramping up for the Borland launch. "We were already convinced that Delphi will be the best way to build client-server applications," said Dave Dyer, first vice president of the HAL-PC User Group. "We're now convinced that Delphi95 will serve many of our other programming needs as well."
In addition, more than 700 VARs and ISVs have received intensive technical training on Delphi95 to date, and four more hands-on training sessions for VARs and ISVs worldwide are scheduled within the next 30 days. Delphi is currently placed in over 1000 beta sites worldwide.
Delphi95 is scheduled to ship in early 1995. Pricing will be announced at that time. For more information, please contact Borland at (800) 891-2223.
