From the start of the fourth season, all programmes were made with a Dolby Surround soundtrack instead of the plain stereo soundtrack used in earlier seasons. The 99th episode, In Theory, was directed by Patrick Stewart, the second member of the regular cast to try his hand at it.

Episode Details

The Best Of Both Worlds - Part II

After Riker's unsuccessful attempt to destroy the Borg using the main deflector dish, the Enterprise is left dead in the water. The Borg continue towards Earth and are intercepted by the Federation fleet at Wolf 359. Repairs completed the Enterprise gives chase and arrives at Wolf 359 to discover the fleet destroyed and the Borg still en route to Earth. Can Riker devise a plan to defeat the Borg when the whole fleet failed?

Family

While the Enterprise undergoes repairs on Earth, crew members reunite with family as Picard comes face to face with his jealous brother. Meanwhile Worf's human foster parents visit the Enterprise to see him.

Brothers

Data commandeers the Enterprise to take him home to his elderly creator, Noonian Soon, after he receives a sub-conscious summons. Once there he clashes with his evil brother Lore.

Suddenly Human

Picard risks war when he refuses to return a human boy to the alien father who raised him, and may have abused him.

Remember Me

Wesley's experiment with warp fields results in his mother getting caught in a universe where the crew are disappearing one by one. The crew send off a plea for help to the homeworld of the Traveller but can he arrive in time to show Wesley the way to save her?

Legacy

A rescue mission leads the crew to the birthplace of their late comrade Tasha Yar, where they encounter her mysterious sister, Ishara. When she tricks them into removing a implanted warning device that has kept the balance in the planets civil war for years, the crew are forced to examine their motives.

Reunion

Picard is chosen to mediate a Klingon power struggle by the poisoned leader of the Klingon Empire who is dying. Meantime Worf confronts the Klingon, Duras, who disgraced him and has just killed his mate K'Ehleyr. Worf discovers that he has a son, Alexander.

Future Imperfect

After an Away Team mission fails, Riker awakens in sickbay to discover sixteen years have passed and he now commands the Enterprise. Slowly he becomes convinced it is an illusion, but what is reality and what is make believe?

Final Mission

After being accepted by Starfleet Academy, Wesley accompanies Picard on a final mission, only to find himself struggling to keep the captain alive when the shuttlecraft crashes on a barren desert world.

The Loss

The Enterprise becomes trapped in a mysterious void, and at the same time Troi looses her empathic abilities. Troi becomes convinced that she can no longer do her job as counselor and resigns.

Data's Day

The impending wedding of his friend Chief O'Brien compounds Data's confusion about the nuances of human feelings. In the meantime, the Enterprise plays host to a Vulcan ambassador, T'Pel, who is not all she seems.

The Wounded

Picard must stop a renegade Federation starship which is making unprovoked attacks on a former enemy's ship (Cardassians).

Devil's Due

Picard fights to save a terrorised planet from a powerful woman who claims to be the devil, and claims the obediance of an entire race in slavery as promised in an anicent myth of a deal with the Devil.

Clues

The Enterprise travels through a worm hole in which most of the crew is knocked out for what is apparently 30 seconds. However, there are signs that say that they were out for much longer. Then Picard and the crew are shocked to discover that Data is lying to them.

First Contact

When a survey as part of a first contact mission goes wrong, Riker is seriously injured and taken to an alien hospital. His life is put in jeopardy when they suspect he is an alien. Forced to accelerate the time scale of the mission, Picard and Troi make contact with a leading scientist and try to convince her they mean no harm. They tell her of Riker's disappearance, but she cautions them not to mention it when they meet the planet's leader.

Galaxy's Child

The Enterprise as a parent? Seems so, when it accidentally kills a space-borne creature whose child comes to believe NCC-1701-D is its mother.

Night Terrors

After finding a devastated ship, the Enterprise too becomes trapped in the same rift in space, and the crew are plagued by unexplained paranoia and hallucinations.

Identity Crisis

After a string of Geordi's former colleagues go missing, Dr. Crusher races against time to locate a parasite that threatens to transform Geordi into an alien creature.

The Nth Degree

Reg Barclay is endowed with super human intelligence by an alien probe and threatens the safety of the Enterprise.

Qpid

The mischievous Q turns Picard into Robin Hood and sends him on a quest designed to force him to prove his love for an old flame (Vash).

The Drumhead

After an unexplained explosion appears to be sabotage, a search for a spy aboard the Enterprise turns into a witch hunt in which Picard is implicated as a traitor.

Half A Life

Picard risks war when he offers asylum to a visiting scientist who wishes to escape the ritual suicide mandated by his society.

The Host

Dr Crusher falls in love with an alien ambassador from a race known as the Trill who the Enterprise are transporting to a peace conference. When his shuttlecraft is attacked and he is fatally injured, they discover that the Trill are a twinned lifeform consisting of a humanoid host body and a wormlike symbiot. With the new Trill host still 40 hours away, Riker agrees to be a temporary host. Beverly must decide whether she can make the leap and accept the new host as the same person she loved before.

The Minds Eye

Romulan forces kidnap Geordi and turn him into a killing machine in order to sour relations between the Federation and the Klingon Empire.

In Theory

Data experiments with love by pursuing a romantic relationship with a fellow crew member. In the meantime, mysterious holes in the fabric of space threaten the Enterprise.

Redemption

As civil war threatens the Klingon Empire, Worf's loyalties are torn between the Federation and his people, while Picard must decide who is to be the new leader of the Klingon High Council.
