From: Greenpeace crew on the Altair heading for the Spar
Date: Monday 26th June

Subject: Brent Spar update.

The Greenpeace support vessel, Altair left Lerwick today at about 11.15 a.m. We are going out to take up following the tow of the floating Brent Spar again. Paula, our Greenpeace pilot, took her helicopter out yesterday and found the Spar. At 17.00 hours Sunday they were approximately 60 miles west of the north of Shetland. We expect to rendezvous the Spar by 20.00 hours tonight.

Paula and the heli will be staying on board the Altair for the time being. Jon Castle is still the skipper. Shell decided not to take any legal action against him for his part in the initial occupation of the Brent Spar.

Dave, our photographer, got some new photos yesterday - We are pleased to say that the Spar still has Greenpeace banners and flags flying - "Save Our Seas"

The Altair will follow the Spar until it reaches the parking location - which will probably be in Norway. Shell has not yet formally asked for this although we expect them to today. The earliest that they can reach Norway is next weekend.

We are passing on any information that we have about companies who are interested in working on dismantling the Spar on land to Shell. According to information from Norway there is already strong competition from companies for the contracts.

ne of the more imaginative proposals is from an Austrian entrepreneur who wants to turn it into a floating casino!

More as it happens
