FROM: GREENPEACE CREW OCCUPYING THE SHELL BRENT SPAR OIL PLATFORM DATE: 23 MAY, 1995 -- DAY 24
Early this morning, around 6am, 15 police and security from the Stadive, an enormous oil rig servicing vessel, moved to board the Brent Spar in a metal cage suspended from a giant crane. Greenpeace activists repeatedly pushed the cage off of the Brent Spar surface but eventually gave up the fight and allowed the cage to land.

At that time, a number of activists scattered and hand cuffed themselves to pre-arranged positions within the oil platform and above it on large crane. Eight activists and six journalists were taken on board the Stadive after boltcutters were used to remove them from their positions.

It now appears that there are an unknown number of Greenpeace activists hidden in various parts of the disused oil rig. Shell have not allowed us to communicate with the people aboard the Brent Spar. We are unclear as to the exact position at the moment but one thing is for sure: the struggle continues, with International pressure mounting against the UK government and Shell, all our efforts will be concentrated on stopping the dumping of the Brent spar into the North Sea in the lead up to the North Sea Conference on 8-9 June.
