Welcome to the Intel Architecture Labs (IAL) Developer Support library. IAL is a research and development organization chartered with accelerating the advancement of system-level hardware and software technology from processor generation to generation. IAL's mission is to improve the performance, reliability, ease-of-use, and cost-effectiveness of Intel Architecture-based desktop, mobile and server platforms.
IAL drives a number of industry-wide initiatives, including PCI Local Bus, Plug and Play, the Multiprocessor Specification, Power Management, and Telephony APIs. IAL works with other industry leaders to develop and deliver specifications, standards, and development kits.
IAL publishes a quarterly newletter to share information with you about IAL's work in software related technologies. These newsletters are available on-line in Adobe Acrobat format. If you do not have an Acrobat viewer, you can download one directly from Adobe .
Microprocessor Technology is bringing new software horizons
to more and more users such as 3-D design, multimedia, handwriting
and voice recognition, virtual reality and more.
3DR is a scalable, real-time 3D graphics library for Microsoft*
Windows*. It provides a device-independent view of the graphics
hardware which complements the 2D services provided by GDI.
Plug and Play Technology makes personal computers easier
to use by automating the process of configuring devices added
to the PC. With Plug and Play technology implemented, users no
longer have to worry about assigning IRQs, I/O addresses, and
DMA channels to PC enhancement cards.
Power Management
Technology increases battery life for portable computers and reduces
power consumption for energy-efficient desktop computers.
Indeo(R) video is Intel's video recording and playback
software technology. Without any additional hardware, it enables
your PC to playback Indeo video formatted movies.
Telephony software technology symbolizes a major step in the evolution
of the personal computer as it brings the utility and almost limitless
reach of the telephone to the desktop computer.
The Desktop Management Interface
allows desktop computers, hardware and software products,
and peripherals, whether they are standalone systems or linked
into networks, to be manageable and intelligent.
Winsock 2
is a network programming interface for Microsoft Windows
which will enable developers to create applications that work
transparently across all types of networks.
The Personal Conferencing Specification
is an open specification that enables interoperable conferencing products.
It defines a common architecture for PC-based conferencing and communications
using PC applications and a variety of media types including voice, data and
video.
The Tools Interface Standards
are two sets of specifications which allow software developers to
standardize on a set of binary interface definitions to reduce the number of
different interface implementations that currently must be considered in any
single environment.
