Quick Index:

Comment: "I love your Pentium(R) processor but I really don't know what software it improves tremendously. You should ask software companies to print on there[sic] boxes if this software is greatly improved by the Pentium Chip. I've been dying to try my P60 on a cool software title to see how much it improves it."

Answer: That's great! We're glad you're excited about the technology behind today's best processors. You will note at your local PC software store that some PC application titles have a green sticker on it entitled "Runs even better on a Pentium(R) Processor." Some of these titles are reflected in the Great PC Applications and Technologies section of the new Selecting your PC. Check it out.

Comment: "It's nice to see that my opinion [of] what is a good computer is corresponding to yours."

Answer: Good to hear it! We are always glad to get input on our recommendations, as well as stories about your PC purchases.

Comment: "I am attempting to make a selection for a processor for my current system[sic]. I currently have an Intel486(TM) SX 25Mhz and want to upgrade to a new processor. I am considering going to the new IntelDX4(TM) 100Mhz but am also considering the Pentium(R) processor 75Mhz. The problem that I am wrestling with is whether the difference in cost is really justifiable. Most of my use is really using just a few games, Quicken*, MS-Project* and MS-Word*. All of these run fairly well on my current system. The only problem is in generating reports sometimes on MS-Project which can take about 7-10 minutes or some of the games such as Descent* which really seems to slow down when too many things are happening all at once."

Answer: Thanks for writing. We believe a lot of folks are in a situation similar to yours, which is why we built Selecting your PC to be an objective way to purchase your PC. Keep in mind Great PC Applications and Technologies when thinking about your PC purchase (you mention programs like MS-Project* that benefit from improved response time, and games like Descent that benefit from improved 3D Graphics). Then use the Select your PC form to determine what system configuration we recommend and how that recommendation's lifetime and investment protection compares to several other options.

Comment: "I like your select a PC site, but what does the iCOMP ratings measure??"

Answer: Glad you like it. We have more information available on processor and systems performance in general as well as the iCOMP rating in particular.

Comment: "Please, please could you make available the Intel movies that I see at the stores running on new PC's. Some of the AVI videos are the best I have ever seen on PC's."

Answer: Sure thing! The latest version of Selecting your PC includes a section on Great PC Applications and Technologies. In there you will find the Application Showcase which has AVI movies for a number of the reseller demos. Look for us to grow this collection over time. Please help us by letting us know what you would like to see more of.

Comment: "It seems no matter what you select for your configuration, the results are 'buy a P90'. Is this some sort of joke? Look, BELEIVE[sic] ME, I KNOW I won't need a P90 if I'm JUST playing DOS games on my computer. However, when I just select the home entertainment checkbox and select DOS only for the OS, your results still come up with a P90!?!?!?!"

Answer: Thanks for the feedback. We feel there is a whole new generation of applications available that take advantage of scalable technologies like 3D graphics, full screen video and great audio. These games (Magic Carpet*, Dark Forces*, Navy Fighters*, Descent*, Dragon Lore*, Flight Unlimited*, Under a Killing Moon*, etc.) will provide you with better experiences on a Pentium(R) Processor based system. Check out the AVI movies we have available in the Application Showcase. We think you'll really like what you see.

ps: We recently visited a game developer in San Francisco and what we saw indicates that the games are going to get better faster. To have a system that provides the best gaming experience, make sure you have some performance headroom. It'll be well worth it!
