• What is the Paris Pages?
  It is a non-profit project about Paris. It was started over a year ago and has since grown significantly. In the near future it will be fully organized as a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation under the US tax code. • Who runs the Paris Pages?
  The content of the Paris Pages is being contributed by many people, including the Office de Tourisme de Paris and the French Government Tourist Office/Maison de la France. Besides contributing most of the images and text, Norman Barth is also doing the html/cgi/database work.

  You can get a good idea of the current weather in Paris by looking at the latest satellite images:

  We cannot tell you months in advance whether it will be raining, or cloudy on any particular day. However, we can tell you that the mean temperature in Paris is 11.6 C (53 F). It snows about 15 days out of the year during winter. The snow rarely stays longs however. In general winter can be wet and somewhat cold: around 5 - 10 degrees Celsius (41 - 50F). Summer temperatures are warm, occasionally getting as high as 30 or 32 C (86 - 90F).

• When is the best time to visit Paris?
  Each season has its special moments, and the secrets of Paris are never completely on disply during any particular time. Many Parisians go on vacation during August so there are fewer lines, more parking, and generally less bustle - at least away from the tourist sites. But many restaurants, theaters, etc. are also closed. The weather is generally better in summer as well. During winter, there are fewer tourists and entrance to the major museums will be easier. The weather may not be quite as accommodating however. You will - in any case - quickly determine that one visit is not enough. So come when you can.

• Can you recommend a hotel to me?
  No - but listings of Hotels, as well as foyers and youth hostel listings are available, together with other tourist information. In the near future an exhaustive listing of 1500 hotels in Paris will be available here.

  No - not at this time. Hopefully in the future this will be possible.

• What are the formalities to getting married in Paris?
  To qualify for the civil ceremony, you need to be in France for a minimum of 40 days. Contact the nearest French Consulate or Embassy for the most recent details. Religious ceremonies are not regulated by the state, hence there is no such time limit associated with a religious wedding ceremony.

  No, we cannot. As far as we know, he doesn't have one.

  No, we cannot. Although we know many things, we do not know all of the email addresses in France. If you have your friends street address, then you might consider sending them a (conventional) letter; if you have their telephone number, why not call them?

• Is the French telephone directory online?
  Sort of - France Telcom has a version of the minitel online, although its user interface is difficult to use. Follow the link from the page of Other Links.

• How can I get in contact with a French penpal?
  The easiest and best way is to send an electronic mail message to a newsgroup such as soc.culture.french, or k12.lang.francais . (I suggest that you not use the soc.penpals newsgroup.)

• Why doesn't my browser work?
  Please consult your local computer guru regarding any browser problems you might have. It is not possible for the Paris Pages to solve technical problems with your computer, nor with your web browser (NCSA's Mosaic, or Netscape etc.). If your problems persist and you believe that the error is on the part of the Paris Pages, then please do by all means send an electronic mail message to the Paris Pages.
