STEP feasibility study
Description
Goals and Results
In this project, the applicability of the coming ISO standard STEP
is investigated.
The study should reveal the efforts to be taken for a complete STEP/EXPRESS
schema. Such a schema is exemplified in the field of "High-voltage
asynchronous motors". It consists of some 100 entities. As a result,
the considered target area has been re-modelled in terms of data
model and data flow.
The STEP schema seems to
become smaller as far as the number of entities is
concerened. Compared to the E/R-schema of a relational database,
a decreasing factor of 1/3 is achieved.
A significantly increased number of relationships is contained in the
model, however.

- This paper describes how data models given in the EXPRESS syntax can
be stored in a database. Different approaches (relational,
object-oriented) are discussed.
