In each category, the tools are ordered in decreasing level of usefulness
(IMHO).
If you feel that an important URL is missing from this list,

- The Lycos Search
- Aliweb
(Archie-like Indexing for the Web)
ALIWEB proposes that people keep track of the services they provide,
in such a way that automatic programs can simply pick up their descriptions,
and combine them into a searchable database.
- The
WebCrawler. The WebCrawler is a tool for searching the Web. It
operates by traversing the Web and either building an
index for later use, or by searching in real-time for
a query. The index built by the WebCrawler is available
for searching via the
WebCrawler Search Page.
- The World Wide Web Worm.
The Worm is scouring the Web and has found almost all Web resources that are out
there. We present the resources in several ways and provide you with search
capabilities on this valuable database of over 100,000 multimedia objects.
- The JumpStation
is a new way of referencing the information available on the World Wide
Web. The JumpStation relies upon a Robot for it's data acquisition.
This service currently provides a means of searching for a subject
referenced by a document title or header.

- URL Heaven, Belgian Site!
These pages mainly contain links to other info without any 'organisation'
to the lists themselves.
- What's New With
NCSA Mosaic
which carries announcements of new servers on the web.
- Free For All.
A list of arbitrary links which can be changed dynamically
by ANYONE on the network! This list is rather chaotic.
You better turn on 'delayed image loading'
before you jump to this page or it will take forever to download it.
Meta-search engines provide easy to use FORMS interfaces towards most
previously mentioned Search Tools.
You can search for just about anything: Information Servers, People, Software,
Publications, News-FAQs, Documentation, ...
This is a category to contain everything that did not fit into one of the
groups above.
