Welcome to the Fisher College of Business
The Fisher College of Business
accepts the classic university roles
of teaching, research, and service. While our mission is professional
education buttressed by the social sciences, our goal is to understand,
and to help the student understand, the role and administration of
institutions in our society. Our challenge is to discover and explain
change in society, institutions, and administrative practices.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Fisher College of Business is to achieve excellence
in teaching, research, and service. The College will be a national
and international leader in research and education through the delivery
of creative, innovative programs that enhance the effectiveness of
business and government.
History of the College
Founded in 1916, the college has evolved through significant
organizational changes.
In the 1968 University reorganization, the College of Administrative
Science replaced the College of Commerce and Administration. The new
organization encompassed five teaching faculties:
Accounting,
Finance,
Management Science,
Marketing, and
Public Administration,
as well as
the School of Social Work.
In 1974, the Faculty of Public Administration became the School
of Public Administration, and in 1975, the School of Social Work was
granted college status.
Over time, the College faculties evolved into the departments of
Accounting
and Management Information Systems,
Finance,
Management and Human
Resources,
Management Sciences, and
Marketing.
The name of the College was changed in 1986 from the College of
Administrative Science to the College of Business. In 1989, the School
of Public Administration was renamed the School of Public Policy and
Management.
In 1993, the college received a gift of $20 million from Max M. Fisher,
a 1930 graduate of the college and one of the nation's leading
industrialists and philanthropists. The gift is the largest ever
received by an Ohio State academic unit and the second largest in
the University's history. The gift accelerated the College's transformation
plans, the cornerstone of which is a new $67 million, multi-building
business complex scheduled for completion in 1998.
In recognition of his outstanding commitment, the college was designated
the Max M. Fisher College of Business by the University Board of
Trustees.
Accreditation
The
Accounting
and Business Administration
programs are accredited by the American Assembly
of Collegiate Schools of Business. The School of
Public Policy and Management is accredited by the
National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and
Administration. The University, and hence the
College, is accredited by the North Central
Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges.
The Assembly and both associations are universally
recognized as speaking to the quality of the academic
programs of the institution.
Organization
The
Max M. Fisher College of Business offers one

for various areas of college administration.

lifelong intellectual and professional endeavors of faculty, students, and
staff in an environment of academic freedom;
