Learning To Navigate

The following information should help to make your journey through Access HP as productive and pleasant as possible. This system is designed for both new and experienced users. Feel free to experiment!

Navigation Tips

The HP logo acts like a beacon that takes you to the highest level Home Page of Access HP. Any time you see the HP logo appear in the upper right hand portion of the screen or at the end of every topic, you can click on it and return to the Home Page. If you are already at the Home Page, you'll simply stay there.

There are two screen region which will aid you in navigating Access HP. The banners at the top and bottom of every page contain iconic control buttons.

The Binoculars icon leads to a keyword search. The search offers a powerful mechanism for users who are seeking specific information.

The Balloon icon leads you to the page directly above the one you are looking at in the Access HP hierarchy. It will take you up one level closer to the Home Page.

The Index icon in the lower part of the page will lead you to the Access Guide section of Access HP. In it you will find various information locator tools for rapid access.

The Arrow icon found at the lower left part of every page automatically scrolls to the top of the current page.

Finally, a labeled banner appears at the top of each Access HP page. Clicking on the banner will take you all the way up to the beginning of that section.

How to Tell a Hyperlink

You may notice that some of the images found in the center of the screen have a color outline. These images will reveal additional information when clicked on. Text that is hyperlinked appears in that same highlite color and is always underlined. If the underline is a dashed line, then you have already visited that node in the previous or current viewing session. New information might have been added to that topic since you have viewed it last.

The 'Coming Soon...' sign indicates that this area of Access HP is still under development. We plan to keep on improving Access HP by adding new features. 'Coming Soon...' indicates that you have gotten a sneak preview at our blue-prints of things to come.

To retrace your steps while browsing through Access HP, you can use the Back button on most browsers.

Dealing with Large Graphics

Access HP is a richly graphical environment. You may choose to receive your information in a text only format (which will be faster but not as effective) by using the options availble on most web browsers, for example NCSA Mosaic calls this option Delay Image Loading and Netscape call it Auto Load Images.

Most browsers also provide an interrupt button that stops your browser while reading information from a server. You may find this helpful if you know where in AccessHP you are going and wish to get there quickly.
