HP's New 100VG Hubs And Accessories Provide The Best "Future-Proof," High-Speed Solution

Hewlett-Packard Company, the leader in network systems for workgroups, today announced 10 new 100VG-AnyLAN products that give companies a cost-effective way to handle emerging multimedia applications while relieving network congestion without the hassle of changing cable, cabinets or network design.

HP's new 100VG hubs offer the modularity and flexibility needed to let customers decide what solution will work best in their networks. The AdvanceStack 100VG Hub-14 provides speed, security and reliability for less than twice the price of a 10Base-T connection. The AdvanceStack 100VG Hub-7M is designed to interconnect workgroups, building high-speed networks throughout an organization. The AdvanceStack 100VG Hub-7E is an entry-level, high-speed hub for building new, small workgroup solutions.

HP's new 100VG accessories give customers the flexibility and expandibility to configure, design and future-proof their networks. Three new "slide-in" AdvanceStack 100VG transceivers -- UTP, STP and Fiber Optic (FO) -- for the Hub-14 and Hub-7M allow users to add network features as they need them. The AdvanceStack 100VG/ET SNMP/Bridge Module provides a connection between a 10Mbps network and a 100Mbps network plus comprehensive network management.

The strong customer demand for HP's 100VG hubs surprised the industry. The new 100VG products demonstrate HP's commitment to meet those demands and continue its technological innovation to meet emerging requirements. Since introducing the products in late 1994, HP has shipped more than 200,000 100VG hub ports.

• AdvanceStack 100VG Hub-14 -- The AdvanceStack 100VG Hub-14 fully supports the IEEE 802.12 standard. It provides 12 fixed RJ45 connection downlink ports. One modular port accepts a slide-in UTP, STP or FO transceiver. This port can be configured as a redundant uplink port or a downlink port. Its primary uplink port also accepts a slide-in transceiver, allowing a distance of up to two kilometers between devices when the FO transceiver is installed.

• AdvanceStack 100VG Hub-7M -- The AdvanceStack 100VG Hub-7M's six downlink modular ports allow users to plug in the new 100VG transceivers for UTP, STP or FO connectivity. Like the Hub-14, the Hub-7M has one port that can be configured as a redundant uplink port or a downlink port. Its primary uplink port also accepts a slide-in transceiver, enabling the same long distance benefits of FO.

• AdvanceStack 100VG Hub-7E -- The AdvanceStack 100VG Hub-7E is designed for new, small workgroups that need high-speed connectivity. It provides six fixed RJ45 downlink ports that connect to any kind of end node. One fixed RJ45 port is an uplink that gives users the opportunity to expand and connect -- via the Hub-14, the Hub-7M or a switch -- to an existing 10Base-T workgroup.

• 100VG Transceivers -- HP's three new slide-in 100VG transceivers provide UTP, STP or FO connectivity to increase network uptime and reliability. They are the same transceivers used in HP's Switch 100VG modules.

• AdvanceStack 100VG/ET SNMP/Bridge Module -- The AdvanceStack SNMP/Bridge Module provides a 10/100VG bridge and SNMP management capability. The bridge capability preserves the investment in equipment and infrastructure with speed-matching -- from 100Mbps to 10Mbps or vice versa -- to connect users to their existing 10Base-T networks. The SNMP management capability allows the solution to be managed by HP's industry-leading OpenView network management software. This solution delivers networkwide traffic monitoring, "top-talkers" data to help identify proper placement of 100VG segments and accurate topology mapping. These features are unmatched innovations in the management of high-speed and switched networks. This new module also supports existing Dial-A-LAN and Router 210 modules enabling additional capabilities such as remote access and routing.
