"Java Powered" Logo

Terms and Conditions/Permission to Use

Developers of applets and other applications using Sun's Java(tm) Binary Releases and/or Java Compatible development products may use the new "Java Powered" Logo(tm), under the following terms and conditions:

  1. The "Java Powered" Logo can be used only in connection with applets or applications ("Apps") created with unmodified Sun Java Binary Code pursuant to the Java Binary Code License, or using an authorized third-party product branded with the official "Java Compatible" Logo (collectively, "Authorized Software"). Acceptance of these terms and conditions is a representation that your Apps comply with this requirement.

  2. The "Java Powered" Logo can be used only in the official form provided by Sun. You cannot modify the logo in any manner, including size, shape, proportions, color, etc. (except you must/may proportionally resize the logo so it is no larger than your company name or logo appearing on the same page or document.) After you've read and accepted these terms and conditions, you'll receive the URL for our internal page where we maintain the official logo GIF. You can download it from there. The URL is provided confidentially, and you may not disclose it to anyone else.

  3. The "Java Powered" Logo can be used only on web pages and marketing collateral that refer to Apps created with Authorized Software. If your web page or collateral includes other apps, applications or products not created with Authorized Software, then you must place the "Java Powered" Logo so that it's clearly associated only with the authorized Apps (e.g., directly adjacent to the most prominent graphical or textual reference to the Apps, such as product logos or paragraph headings). You may also use the "Java Powered" Logo under these Terms and Conditions on the product packaging for and online splashscreens in your Apps.

  4. You must include on your web pages, marketing collateral, product packaging, and online screens where you use the "Java Powered" Logo a legend that says: "Java and other Java-based names are trademarks of Sun Microsystems, Inc. and refer to Sun's family of Java-branded technologies."

  5. Your web pages, marketing collateral, product packaging, and splashscreens mus follow the Java Trademark Guidelines. In particular, you may not use any Java Trademark in the name of your App.

  6. SUN MAKES NO WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND RESPECTING THE JAVA TRADEMARK OR THE "JAVA POWERED" LOGO, INCLUDING THE VALIDITY OF SUN'S RIGHTS IN THOSE MARKS IN ANY COUNTRY, AND DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL WARRRANTIES THAT MIGHT OTHERWISE BE IMPLIED BY APPLICABLE LAW, INCLUDING WARRANTIES AGAINST INFRINGEMENT OF THIRD PARTY TRADEMARKS. YOU USE THE "JAVA POWERED" LOGO AT YOUR OWN RISK.

  7. You agree to indemnify Sun against any claims, suits, awards, costs and damages incurred by Sun as a result of your violation of any of these terms and conditions.

  8. You agree to assist Sun in executing and recording any documents relating to this permission necessary to protect the Java trademark or Java Powered Logo in any country.

  9. These terms and conditions apply only to the "Java Powered" Logo. You are not granted permission to use any other Sun trademark or logo.

  10. Sun may terminate your permission to use the "Java Powered" Logo at any time upon notice, in Sun's sole discretion, if Sun deems it necessary for protection of the Java trademark or "Java Powered" Logo.
