Robert J. (Bob) Herbold, 52, is executive vice president and chief operating officer of Microsoft Corporation, the leading worldwide provider of software for personal computers. He is responsible for worldwide operations at Microsoft, including finance, manufacturing, distribution, logistics, information systems, human resources, corporate services, and real estate. He also oversees Microsoft Press and all corporate marketing activities such as corporate advertising, market research, creative services, and event marketing.

Herbold is a member of Microsoft’s Office of the President. This group shares responsibility with Bill Gates, Microsoft’s chairman and chief executive officer, for broad strategic and business planning for the entire company.

Herbold has a bachelor of science degree from the University of Cincinnati and both a master’s degree in mathematics and a Ph.D. in computer science from Case Western Reserve University.

In his spare time, Herbold and his wife Pat, a commercial real estate attorney, enjoy hiking in North Carolina, Vermont, and Washington. They have three children, each has already graduated from college and entered the workforce. Herbold is also an avid fisherman.
