Mayor Tom Murphy

Dear Friend,

Welcome to Pittsburgh over the Internet!

As Mayor of the city of Pittsburgh I am excited that you are taking a look at our city. Pittsburgh is a city about vitality. A vitality that can be seen throughout our ninety neighborhoods and communities.

Pittsburgh has changed over the years. We have shed our smoky steel town image to show a city that is on the cutting edge of medical research, robotics, high-technology, finance and business. At the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, researchers are constantly discovering new methods and ideas. The Transplantation Institute is the premier center for transplantation research throughout the world. Carnegie-Mellon University is in the forefront of robotics development. Pittsburgh also is home to many of this country's top banking and financial institutions.

Pittsburgh is also a great place to live and raise a family. With over 35 miles of riverfront property, Pittsburgh has many opportunities for economic and residential development. The cultural diversity of our neighborhoods coupled with a strong infrastructure provides an exciting locale to live and play. The Carnegie Institute with its Museum, Science Center, Andy Warhol Museum, and extensive library system; the Cultural Trust with Heinz Hall and the Benedum Center - two premier performing and visual arts centers in the nation; the Pittsburgh Zoo; National Aviary; Phipps Conservatory; and the many other cultural and entertainment institutions throughout the city add to the terrific quality of life that can only be found here in Pittsburgh.

I am excited to welcome you to view a little of our city through the Internet and I extend my personal invitation to you to come to Pittsburgh and take a Look At Us Now!

Sincerely

Tom Murphy, Mayor
