The Department of Anthropology provides high quality education specifically designed to meet the needs of our constituencies. The department's history demonstrates that our programmatic diversity reflects the multiplicity of needs and opportunities characteristic of an urban campus. The academic and training specialties of the department include the study of behavior in both prehistoric and modern societies, physical anthropology, and comparative social research. Instructional and research programs also concentrate on the applications of anthropology to health and medicine, urbanization, complex societies, and museum studies.
