Specifications for Caldera's Main Internet Server

Below are the specifications for our main server and Internet connection.

This machine runs the Caldera Network "Desktop" using Linux 1.2.10. It hosts the following services:

An FTP site with mirrors of sunsite, tsx-11 and part of funet.
Our WWW server.
Corporate email gateway using sendmail.
An Internet DNS (Directory Name Services) server using BIND.
Network Time Protocol client/server. Keeps our machines in sync with the International Atomic Time standard to within about 150 ms.
A full Usenet news feed via NNTP (Network News Transport Protocol). Several hundred megabytes of news are received each day.
NFS server for local NFS clients.
A small, 6 modem "BBS" for limited technical support for those without Internet access.
A BOOTP server. Needed to boot our local HP LaserJet 4si MX printer.

The machine is an IBM PC clone. We built it from the following components:

A single Intel 100 MHz Pentium CPU
An ASUSTeK PCI Dual Pentium Mainboard. Model PCI/I-P54NP4D. This board uses the Intel 82430N PCIset "Neptune" chipset. The board supports two processors but is currently running in single processor mode. We will add another processor when the SMP Linux project is further along.
64 MB parity RAM.
17 GB RAID disk subsystem from MTI. We have the the MTI StorageWare Deskside Tower with 5, 4.3 GB storage elements (4 for data) with a SCSI-III interface. This unit looks like one 17 GB disk drive to the SCSI controller. It includes an RS-232 console port for configuration and monitoring.
DPT "SmartCache III" SCSI, PCI host adapter, model PM2024. Connected to the RAID system via a SCSI-II to SCSI-III cable.
Cyclades Cyclom-16Ye 16 port RS-232 controller. Connected to US Robotics V.34 28.8k Courier modems.
A 3Com 3C509 Ethernet controller.
An EXB-8205XL Exabyte SCSI tape drive.
