Cyberspace Research (CsR), of North York, Ontario, has achieved today a major milestone on the Internet and the World Wide Web by answering its first 1,000,000 requests for its second edition of the Central Index of Canadian World Wide Web Servers.

The second release features Canadian WWW Server lists organized by province, cities, and scope, as well as dynamic lists of new servers and services, and on-line registration services, all free-of-charge for the benefit of the Internet community at large.

"We did anticipate a strong demand for this service from the very beginning of the project, not only from Canadian people but from everyone else from all the countries which have access to the Internet.", said Mr. Benoit Turgeon, project manager at Cyberspace Research.

By reaching its first million connections, the second release of the Central Index of Canadian WWW Servers has become one of the most requested service on the Canadian World Wide Web. Current usage patterns show that requests are strongest during the work week, a fact that may indicate the success of the service in the latest segment to embark on the Internet: Canadian businesses.

At its beginning, the World Wide Web and the Internet were primarily used by universities and research centres. The commercialization of the Internet, however, has shifted the usage towards businesses which now use the Internet to expand their capabilities. In fact, the vast majority of new WWW servers added to the Canadian Internet come from businesses. Businesses also account for the largest fraction of WWW servers across the country.

The Second Release of the Canadian WWW Server Central Index is a not-for-profit project of Cyberspace Research and can be accessed at the Uniform Resource Locator (URL):
