The Public FTP Server

We have a public (or anon) FTP server at ftp.dina.kvl.dk. The server is used to provide files and information from Dina, Dina KVL, from research project, and from individual researchers. The server is also used as a convenient way to make software packages available for users at Dina KVL or KVL in general. Furthermore, the FTP server can be used to deliver files to people at Dina KVL in a reasonably secure manner.

If you are at Dina KVL you can see here how to provide or recieve files using the FTP server.

FTP server organization

When you enter the FTP server from outside (i.e., ftp ftp.dina.kvl.dk), you enter a top-level directory with two subdirectories of interest: pub and incoming. In pub you will find files provided by people at Dina KVL, while incoming can be used to upload files to people at Dina KVL.

Retrieving files from the FTP server

Under pub, you will find a number of subdirectories:

Uploading files to the FTP server

If you want to send a file to a person at Dina KVL, use the incoming directory. This contains subdirectories named for individuals at Dina KVL, and you can put files into these directories. Note that you cannot list the contents of these directories (they will appear empty) and that you cannot retrieve files here. This is done for your safety: files uploaded can only be read by the person owning the directory; others, either at or outside Dina KVL cannot see or read the files.

If you want to upload a file to a person who does not have a incoming directory, contact that person by email or email to ftp@dina.kvl.dk.
