About the Department

The Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering offers a wide range of both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in an environment where teaching and research are well integrated. The Department has grown to become one of the largest in the University with about 550 undergraduate and postgraduate students.

We are committed to relevance in all aspects of our teaching. This aim is fuelled by our outstanding industrial links, collaborative teaching and research programmes, the endowment of industrially funded Professorships and by our close contact with the real world through professional training placements of our students. Many companies recognise the relevance of our courses and include Surrey as a preferred university for student sponsership. The vast majority of our graduates find employment.

The department is particularly proud of the wide range and quality of its research activity; a fact confirmed by the department's receipt of the coveted 5 research rating in the recent research selectivity assessments.

The determination to stay at the forefront of modern technology is illustrated by the UoSAT projects where the Department became the only educational institution in the world building and operating its own satellites. These were placed in orbit via the NASA and ARIANE launch vehicles.
