The Center for Microanalysis of Materials is an established and stable unit of the Frederick Seitz Materials Research Laboratory. The MRL is located on the campus of The University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Its function is to provide microcharacterization services to the researchers in the MRL, other researchers on the Urbana-Champaign campus and elsewhere.

The Center has about a dozen professional staff who maintain and operate the equipment described in the following sections, and who collaborate in the research of the users.

The aim of the Center is to maintain a state-of-the-art facility for the analysis on a microscopic scale of the structure, morphology, chemistry and crystallography of materials and surfaces.
