The MRL Machine Shop is a well-equipped shop with the capability of making
research apparatus to order. The shop has special equipment such as EDM, CNC
Traveling Wire Machines, Vapor Blaster, and CNC Milling Machine.
The EDM Machines are used to machine metals and samples that cannot be done by
conventional machines. Machines that are machined with the EDM Machine must
conduct electricity.
The Vapor Blaster is a machine that uses compressed air, class beads and water
to clean parts and finished products.

The Staff Shop is a small shop with three lathes, three drill presses, two
milling machines, belt sander, soldering table, band saw, and work benches. It
is located adjacent to the main shop.
The Staff Shop is open to all MRL senior staff and MRL graduate students
between the hours 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. It is also
available to MRL senior staff and qualified graduate students when the main
shop is closed. Graduated students who wish to become qualified must pass a
shop test that is given by shop personnel. MRL graduate students may obtain
information about the staff shop test from Bud Dittman.
