Legal Situation: Prostitution is legal; pimping and operating or being found in or working in a "bawdy house" (every place where one or more prostitutes regularly work or where "indecent acts" are performed) are not. Solicitation in public is also illegal, which covers street and hotel prostitution. Generally the best bet is therefore outcall escort services (which operate on shaky ground also, but are legal for both the prostitute and the customer) and call girls. There has been one report about a sting operation in Ontario, directed against an owner of an escort service. A detailed analysis of the Canadian laws is available. The age of consent is defined as follows:

A person is deemed able to give informed consent to sex with
another person if:
- They are 18 years of age or over, or
- They are 14 years of age or over, and they are giving consent to a person
  not in a "position of authority" over them.  Teacher, doctor, baby-sitter,
  etc., or
- They are 12 years of age or over, the person is not in a position of
  authority, and the person is not more than two years older.

Oh, there used to be different rules for anal sex, but they were overturned in
court and the overturning upheld on appeal, so that's pretty safe.

Special practica. Porn movies cannot show anal sex or facial ejaculation or sex involving violence. -- I hear this is no longer true, the law has changed since the supreme court decision.
