Currently Metronet is working with several local businesses, city, and county government. We have a variety of equipment in service, including:
We are also experimenting with various types of network topology. Our primary network links all run on a T1 frame relay configuration that we have found to be reliable and stable. We are also working with a direct fiber connection, which will provide high speed connectivity to the university, as well as lower speed connectivity to our outside network. The major problem factor is the lack of available software for Cisco routers to limit the amount of traffic that interfaces can pass.
Currently, our backbone consists of 10BaseT hubs, connected into 4 routers and 2 terminal servers that primarily connect our internal service provision network. Metronet piggy backs several projects on the back of the equipment, as there is little overhead in doing so.
Metronet as a project is expected to start utilizing new forms of communications equipment, such as ISDN (which really isn't that new to anyone but Corvallis), and radio-modem services. We will also be likely be switching our internal network to switched 100Mbit ethernet to facilitate greater performance.
Metronet will provide service to anyone, however, there are terms and conditions that you must adhere to under our charter. Please call our business office at 503-737-5574 for more information.
