Where to put your homepages in your home directory Check out our homepage at http://www.sky.net (save it as a default on your web browser for future reference...) ...the following will use johndoe as the username... Once the your .html files are created, you need to follow the instructions below in order for your webpage to be viewable. Please *DO NOT* promote any business, commercial, and/or non-profit organizations, or links to any business/commercial sites. As this is for your personal use and recreation, using it to promote a business/commercial organizatoin without our consent will subject your account to the charges for a business and/or commercial account ($45/month). How to make your homepage viewable: 1) Create a directory called .html within your home directory. 2) Create a file called index.html or welcome.html to serve as your your main webpage. From here you can point to the rest of your .html files. 3) You need to make your home directory /home/j/johndoe executable. 4) You need to make your sub-directory /home/j/johndoe/.html executable. 5) You need to make all the html files within the .html directory executable. The command for making your directory, subdirectory, and files executable is "chmod 711" - this allows other users to access your webpages and run any programs in your directory, but not make changes. To do this from the menu system, first go into Directory Management, then choose option 13. 6) Your URL (address for your webpage) will be: http://www.sky.net/~johndoe This is the address you should point your web browser to see your page. 8) To add your home page to our list of user homepages, send an e-mail (you don't need to include anything in the body) to : www-addpage@sky.net For more information, please contact SkyNET.
