Searching in the Tree of Life

Search for organismal names

Fill in the box with text to find in the names of organisms in the Tree of Life. The search will provide links to taxa in the Tree of Life whose names contain that text. If separate words are entered, the search will treat the text literally with spaces included, not as separate words.

Taxon name:
Find words.
(Note: if more than one word is entered, you cannot restrict search to word beginnings.)

Show only those matches for taxa closest to root of Tree.

Restrict search to clade:

(Currently, the searchable index contains mainly scientific names, with very few common names. Also, the Tree is growing, and many branches have not yet been added. If you do not find what you are looking for, you might wish to wander up the branches that are on the Tree.)

Search for any text

Fill in the box with the text to find. The search will provide links to Tree of Life pages that contain the text in the parts indicated.
Text:
Find words.
If more than one word entered, find them only if they occur together as entered (otherwise, search will seek page with all of the words entered, even if apart on page).

Search in the following parts of Tree of Life pages:

Main text
Keywords
Taxon Names
Authors
References

Restrict search to clade:

(Note that some remote parts of the Tree have not been revised to allow for searches restricted to only parts of the page.)
