The Ranked query type is most useful. With the Ranked query type, the search terms are just words and the search engine looks for those words. The documents it finds are ordered best first.
The Boolean query type is more specialised. It allows you to exclude words from the search, but it can't put the documents in order for you. You can use the special characters &|! and (). More documentation about constructing boolean queries is available.
This search system uses the MG full text retrieval system. MG is an acronym for Managing Gigabytes. If you are looking for a full text retrieval system, I can recommend MG.
