The NYU Center for
Digital Multimedia was designated a Center for Advanced Technology (CAT) by the New York State Science
and Technology Foundation (NYSSTF) in 1993. The C4DM's mission is to promote
multimedia in New York State through research, development, and educational
programs. The Center spurs technology transfer by developing prototypes, working
with the faculty, and working with both private and public
companies.
The Center
works closely with NYU's Media Research
Laboratory (MRL), which conducts intellectual research to extend the
possibilities of multimedia technology, tools, and applications. The Center looks
at this universe of new ideas in multimedia and the needs of real-world
enterprises and works to bring the two together in the most effective way.
The C4DM has a full-time development staff that produces multimedia applications, tools, and prototypes based on the research being conducted at the Lab and elsewhere.
Educational opportunites in multimedia at the C4DM and NYU include targetted seminars, a certificate program in multimedia production, and a Masters of Professional Studies program.
