Volvo's steel safety cage construction surrounds the occupants with a rigid protective enclosure designed to help maintain its structural integrity in the event of a collision.

In the event of a frontal collision, energy absorbing structures are designed to deform and absorb a portion of the energy of impact. SIPS, Volvo's innovative Side Impact Protection System, utilizes a network of reinforced body elements to help absorb and dissipate the energy of a side impact through structural members in the sills, floor, pillars, roof and doors.
