Which machines is Linux currently able to run on?
So far, I have run Linux on an A5000 4MB and 8MB, but I see no reason why it
should not run on the A4000, A3020, A4, or A3010 with an Acorn IDE harddrive
interface.
It cannot run on anything earlier than these machines because the hardware is physically different, eg the floppy drive, hard disk interface (if any), serial port,
and the printer port are all in one chip (so called 'PC' chip) in the A5k, however, in A440's, they are in several different chips that are not even register
compatible!
The RiscPC port
Currently this initialises the kernel, forks a task, task switches,
initialises the harddisk partitions and tries to execve init. Currently
this last part fails.
Due to the impending final year project deadline, little is likely to improve
in this area for the next few weeks.
